EASTER BREAD

It’s time to celebrate Easter Sunday!! Easter Sunday is a very religious Catholic Holiday. It is the ending of Lent and many people celebrate it in Church at a special Mass. Not only is it a religious holiday, it’s a big family holiday where everyone gets together and celebrates. We love to celebrate it enjoying our Easter Bread that is a family tradition for us.

There is always a big meal whether it’s a leg of lamb, or a ham, or whatever your preference is for that day. A lot of people also set up a Charcuterie Board or as some of us call it an Antipasto Tray. Whatever the meal may be, we all love some great bread to enhance our meal. This Easter bread is made from scratch and the recipe is almost 100 years old. It’s delicious and once you try it, you will make it every year!!! Below is the recipe so you can enjoy this wonderful bread also!! We make it every Easter as it has become our tradition!! We all look forward to enjoying it with our Easter Dinner!!

INGREDIENTS

6 1/2 CUPS OF FLOUR

1/2 LB BUTTER

6 EGGS (ROOM TEMP)

1/2 CUP SUGAR

2 PACKAGES OF YEAST

1 TEASPOON SALT

4-6 COLORED EGGS

DIRECTIONS

You want to always use fresh flour. Dissolve yeast according to directions on package (let it rise good). Add sugar, salt, butter, eggs. Add flour 1 cup at a time until it’s silky. Knead it until silky. Let it rise until double in size (about 2-3 hours). Then shape it and let is rise again. (Make it into 2 dough and then make strips. Twist strips to make braid). Insert colored eggs inbetween. Bake 10-18 min at 350 degrees. Coat top of bread with egg whites for nice glaze. Make sure it’s golden brown and insert toothpick to check inside of dough. I serve it buttered and it’s delicious!! Enjoy!!
